Approach

You are welcome here. Even the parts of you that you find shameful or difficult.

I work from a wellness perspective, which is about more than freedom from illness. Wellness is an active process of being aware of, and making choices toward, a fulfilling and healthy life. It is a process of growth and change. Wellness involves working with your physical, mental, emotional, social and professional health, as well as developing the sense of meaning and purpose in your life. The foundation of therapy is a relationship and I care passionately about creating a healing space of mindfulness and compassion where you’ll feel accepted and acknowledged. Through the relationship, we'll explore who you are, what you want and what holds you back.

I have seen that by combining secular mindfulness practices with psychotherapy, it is possible to access the body and mind's powerful ability grow, heal and change. I draw from a number of approaches and theories including mindfulness, attachment, cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing and trauma-informed treatment.

My approach to therapy grows from my personal and professional experiences. I view myself as a life-long learner and am committed to continuing to learn and grow in order to support you in the most skillful way possible. There is powerful healing that can occur as a result of authentic connection and it is a privilege to have the chance to be part of your journey.

Why Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment without judgment and with kindness.

I support you in building awareness of thoughts, physical sensations and emotions that are present during our time together. By becoming curious about your thoughts, we will be able to explore patterns and self-limiting beliefs. By welcoming all parts of your experience, I support you in developing self-compassion through relating to your experience with nonjudgement and kindness.

We bring ourselves and our patterns into each moment, and each moment is an opportunity. The first step is knowing and accepting where we are. The next step is deciding what we want to do about it. I will work with you to develop a strong mindfulness practice and skillset so that you have greater opportunity to choose how to respond in ways that move you towards the life you want to build.
