Why Seattle Compassionate Counseling?

image

Hi.

I’m Katie.

A fellow human who has successfully navigated my way through my own neurodiverse journey.

Seattle Compassionate Counseling was founded on the principle that those who live with neurodiversity are often misunderstood and deserve to be treated with integrity and respect.

Through my own lived experience, I recognize how much pain can be caused when you don’t know or understand how to work with your own brain and body.

I know how demoralizing it can feel when you keep trying to fix problems, but you don’t understand what’s the cause or what to do about it.

Seattle Compassionate Counseling is a safe, supportive space where you can feel comfortable to move through and overcome the negative impact of the everyday traumas of life.

A place where there is no shame in feeling different. A place where differences are explored and strengths are built upon.

What people are saying

I very much respect that Katie has a non-pathologizing approach believing that there are strengths as well as challenges and deficits that come with a neurodiverse diagnosis and she works on helping her clients leverage the strengths as well as navigate the challenges. I believe that Katie has a fierce and tender style. She is fierce in her support of clients, she is tender in holding her clients in their struggles. If I had a dear friend or family member struggling with the challenges of neurodiversity, I would feel so good referring them to Katie, knowing that they would be in good, competent, compassionate hands.

Mark J Goodman, MA, Seattle Psychotherapist

Katie has been an avid listener for as long as I’ve known her. When in her element, Katie makes suggestions that make me look at something from a different angle and always has thought-provoking questions. She can be blunt, but it is usually done with a smile and it usually helps me feel more grounded. Katie goes beyond “active listening” and will often remark on my experience with a response that shows how human she is, too, sharing tidbits from her personal life lessons to validate my imperfect human existence.

Kelly

Katie saw me in a way that no one else did and with her help I got psych tested, diagnosed with ADHD, stable on medication and adopted a puppy. I have a good relationship with my family. I didn’t know life could feel this stable or good

Nick

I’ve always know Katie to be a careful listener. She approaches me with curiosity, and responds with compassion.

Mina

I don’t think I would have been able to navigate the last two years without Katie. Our relationship gave me support, humor, healing and helped me get through COVID in one piece.
